Young filmmakers

  • Initiative: The Young Filmmakers' Academy, a Philm48 initiative
  • Target Audience: Tweens (ages 9-12) and Teens (ages 10-18)
  • Objective: Teach the art of skilfully creating and using redemptive media
  • Vision: To empower young people to discover their voice, care about their communities, and communicate their worldview through creative and redemptive storytelling skills
  • Why: Empowering young creators to produce media rooted in goodness, justice, and excellence enables them to recognize and reject content misaligned with these values, fostering a discerning and positive media landscape. The Young Filmmakers Academy is dedicated to shaping a generation that crafts and discerns media with virtue.
  • Empowerment: Provide skills to dissect and be constructively critical of visual media, fostering better interpretation
  • Importance: Help tweens and teens grasp the significance of redemptive storytelling through media.

Create stories

Students learn:

  • To make their own short films or videos using mobile phones.
  • An overview of the whole filmmaking process, from idea, through to action and it’s a wrap!
  • A brief tour of film’s origins and history. They learn screen acting, writing, editing, camera work and stop motion animation.
  • The ability to discern and interpret visual media correctly, through the eyes of a child.
  • After four days the cast and crew (Young Filmmakers) will have completed their movies.

Film to show

What will the Young Filmmakers receive?

  • A Certificate to state that they have completed the Young Filmmaker’s Course
  • Consideration of their short film or stop motion animation on www.kidshubtv.com
  • Students will receive copies of their films to keep. This is their memory of their first entry into the filmmaking world.
  • The completed films will be shown at a premiere screening for cast, crew, friends, and family at the prestigious annual “YFA Screening”.
